Whitney Houston – Just The Lonely Talking Again (Bass Cover)
So while I wanted to demo my recently acquired Kubicki Ex Factor bass I decided to cover one of my favorite songs by the one and only Whitney Houston.
This is my loose interpretation of the brilliant bass work done by Randy Jackson, in fact it's the second time ever in my life that I'm playing this song (the first one was take one for this video and I rushed a bit towards the end).

Какой сочный тон басс, и вообще атмосферка вай
найс бас бро, а то справа то басовый синт, как его(забыл), гуд джоб ваще, звук фирма мясной такой, жЫр!
дядя ты шо, каеф!!!
They don’t make the color scheme of that bass anymore. It is amazing
@@SanNjig yeah, older color combos looked classier imo, especially with blocks and binding
the tape wounds suit that bass and/or your style of playing better, imo
Атмосфера обволакивает🤩
🔥
Great Tone and playing!
This is the tone and feel that I aspire to as a bass player.
gorgeous tone, what did your settings on the VT DI look like? or if you would do this again what would you set it to? Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Typically for this bass my settings would be Character @ 11:00-11:30, Bass @ 2:00-3:00, Mids and Treble at noon, Blend at 100%, Drive just at the edge of breakup (when you can hear it distort at the loudest notes you play), Cab Sim on
Great playing and tone!
Porcupine tree vibes ❤
I keep on coming back to this video for this legendary tone!
Nice pocket. When less is more is an absolute necessity!! Beautiful job my friend.
Было бы круто посмотреть бэкстейдж карантинных видео. Одновременно играли или подорожечно записывали? В каком порядке писали партии? Как справились без ушного мониторинга?
Классно звучит
Those individuals that gave this video a thumbs down, their soul is probably made of crystal and couldn't handle the low end response from this bass. Keep powering the groove.
Hallo have you got Bass Tabs for this Song ? Ist is brillant 👍
It's 9v or 18v ? the tone was the same as position 3 sub-bass on my kubicki 18v
I’ve often wondered if Gabriel gave Tony Levin more freedom to stretch out and experiment musically & sonically than other artists would typically allow on a studio recording from the bass player..?? Because I mean the Gabriel-Levin catalog has some pretty epic bass playing and wild sounds.. Maybe you know this already.. But Levin actually recorded very tunes with chopsticks 🥢 hooked onto his RH fingers w/elastic bands to emulate a drummer hitting a snare with sticks!! 😎
Yeah, he called them "Funk fingers" and even sold them for a while on his website. I believe he got this idea from Jerry Marotta who experimented with playing guitar with his drum sticks.
Ive always liked the way Reverend approaches model design; Unique, Funky body shapes & finish colors. Forward thinking features (that actually work) like the non-binding string tree bar that includes the 3rd unwound g string on the guitar models. I must admit that I’ve never really looked at thier Basses seriously. But I really dig this model! Certainly very affordable and very much in my wheelhouse of MM + J basses Sandberg TM/Lakland 55-02/Stingray’s & J-basses with the oddball funky Reverend
That’s maybe the best 55-02 I’ve ever heard recorded for a YT video!! Is that thing just plain stock.. Just a well setup instrument, dialed in right & played well?? I imagine the signal was sent through a good quality amp and/or DI + A decent interface ..???
Thanks a lot! It has a different preamp, I've upgraded to John East U-Retro from stock Bartolini to have more versatility (like bright mode and passive tone knob). But the stock preamp can sound like this as well. Otherwise you're right, it's just fresh strings, proper setup and Universal Audio Apollo interface with a bit of compression (iirc I used UA 1176 plugin)
grooooooove
What strings are you rocking here?
These are Dunlop Flats
This is top 2 of my favorite songs from Whitney. She was only 24 years old when she sung this re-make of The Manhattans original song. Little does anyone know, former American Idol judge, Randy Jackson, was the bassist playing on Whitney's version. You did a phenomenal job playing this. Even though it was played with a Moog bass synth, would you do a video playing the bass on Whitney's re-make version of The Isley Brothers classic hit, For The Love Of You?
I have a list of songs that I want to make covers of, maybe there will be a synth bass ones too ;)
Amazing tone! Are you going through any amp sims or is this just direct?
Direct only
@@KirillAfonin which pickup are you on?
@@spudmeister3000 if I recall correctly it's 60% bridge 40% neck
Моя рубашка )) Достойно отдельного рассказа в мемуарах)
Great playing ! So it's Barts PU with east preamp ?
Exactly!
Hello Kiril, which bass do you prefer? This Lakland or Reverend Mercalli? Thnks! BTW really perfect tones from both of them!!!!
Thanks a lot! This Lakland was sold long ago to buy a '78 Fender Precision. And while I love this P-bass and Mercalli equally I find myself reaching for Mercalli a bit more. P-bass has more focused and pronounced tone while Mercalli has slightly more low end, so I choose the one that fits the track better. They're both great. And I miss that Lakland too.
@@KirillAfonin thank you very much! I am going for Mercalli!
Збс❤
very nice playing
Awesome playing and a nice, thick sound! Reverend seems to be pretty focused on Rock players, but I think their designs also work great for Jazz, Soul, Funk and Pop, and your demo proves this perfectly! I really like the distinctive character or Reverend instruments! I just wish they'd build more 5-strings! A 5-string Triad or Raymond (sadly discontinued, this had the "correct" MM pickup position) would be amazing!
It got that stingray feeling!
Мастерски! Давно было пора появиться.👍Спасибо!)
я ожидал что в итоге "откроешь" детюнер и дашь-таки нижнюю ре =)))
Bro that Sound! I love FACTOR ❤
Dude this was so nuanced and perfect. I really appreciate this, are you free styling or is that exactly how the original sounds. It’s hard to hear the bass in a lot of Recordings except when the band plays live. Very well done. You must have special ears to pick up the bass frequencies like that. What made you wanna do this song?
Thank you so much! My parents had a big record collection and I loved this album as a kid. As I revisited these recordings from my childhood lately I realized how much they’ve influenced me as a musician. This is my loose interpretation of the original recording. The main groove and accents are in place while filling bits and pieces are improvised (I didn’t learn the exact part, instead I read chord charts while playing). So it’s close to original but not exactly identical.
Nice groove
Как это было давно.
It’s very hard to hear any words. But I like the chill groove.
Sounds awesome!
That can’t be stock smh she singing 🔥🔥🔥
dope man 👍
Is that a stock pre ? It smacks !
It’s John East U-Retro
Красиво!!! 👍 браво!
You’re lucky to have this bass. It’s hard to find a Reverend 5 with black headstock , block inlays .
The first note you played convinced me 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is dope vibes!! 🔥🔥🔥
You gotta make a preset pack for the OP-1 Field. I would buy that in a heartbeat. 🔥
